President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially written to the Nigerian Senate, seeking approval for a total expenditure of ₦1.7 trillion for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in the 2025 fiscal year.

The request was contained in a formal letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, which was read aloud during plenary on Wednesday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

“Tinubu Writes Senate, Seeks Approval For N1.7Trillion FCT Budget”, the letter emphasized the government’s commitment to eradicating poverty and improving the quality of life for citizens living in the Federal Capital Territory.

In the letter, President Tinubu explained that the 2025 budget proposal aligns with Section 299 of the Nigerian Constitution, which grants the National Assembly legislative authority over the FCT.

“The 2025 FCT Budget Proposal prioritises investment in health care services, job creation, youth empowerment, social welfare services, educational infrastructure, and increased agricultural productivity,” the president stated.

According to the breakdown, a significant 85% of the capital expenditure will be dedicated to completing ongoing projects, while the remaining 15% is earmarked for new developmental projects within the territory.

“This approach aims to consolidate gains already made and accelerate the delivery of basic infrastructure and social amenities across the FCT,” Tinubu noted.

He stressed that the proposal is strategically designed to lift Nigerians out of poverty, particularly by targeting sectors that directly impact everyday lives, including healthcare, education, and employment.

President Tinubu concluded by expressing confidence in the Senate’s cooperation, urging lawmakers to expedite consideration and approval of the budget to ensure the seamless execution of developmental goals set for the capital city.
