
The Nigerian Army has reported that its troops from the Joint Task Force North West Operation Fasin Yaki neutralized 21 terrorists in a daring operation at Ruwan Godiya, Faskari Local Government Area, Katsina State.
In a brief statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the military revealed that the operation was carried out on Friday, with troops storming a known terrorist enclave. The encounter resulted in a fierce gun battle, during which the terrorists were overwhelmed, forcing them to flee. Some of the terrorists reportedly drowned in a nearby river during the pursuit.
The operation led to the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition, including:
- Assorted rifles
- Magazines
- Explosives
- Communication devices
- Mobile phones
- Several motorcycles, believed to be used for rapid mobility and attacks.
The military’s statement read:
“The troops subdued the terrorists in a fierce firefight, forcing them to abandon their base and flee. During the ensuing pursuit, 21 terrorists were neutralized, with some succumbing to drowning in a nearby river.”
The statement further added:
“The operation also yielded a significant seizure of a large cache of arms and ammunition, including guns, rifles, magazines, explosives, communication devices, mobile phones, and motorcycles. Details later.”
This raid is the latest in a series of counter-terrorism operations in Nigeria’s northwest aimed at restoring peace and security in the region.
In a related development, the military also disclosed that around 1 am on Friday, troops from Operation Hadin Kai engaged a group of ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State.
The military’s statement read:
“The main thrust of the attack targeted the Brigade, prompting the swift deployment of air support to assist ground forces. After approximately two hours of intense engagement, the terrorists were forced to retreat after suffering casualties.”
The Army confirmed that 16 terrorists were neutralized in the Damboa encounter, and pursuit operations are ongoing. Although an ammunition storage area was hit during the exchange, it was quickly secured with no further escalation.
