American R&B star Chris Brown is set to appear before Manchester Magistrates’ Court this morning, Friday, May 16, after being formally charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, according to Manchester Evening News.

The 36-year-old singer — known globally for early 2000s hits like ‘Run It’, ‘With You’, and ‘Forever’ — was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, May 15, by Greater Manchester Police at the Lowry Hotel in Salford. The arrest was carried out on behalf of the Metropolitan Police, following a lengthy investigation.

The alleged assault is said to have occurred more than two years ago — on February 19, 2023, at a venue in Hanover Square, London.

In a statement released by the Metropolitan Police, officials confirmed:

“A man has been charged following an investigation by detectives in the Metropolitan Police Service. Chris Brown, 36, who is a US national, was charged on Thursday, May 15, with grievous bodily harm with intent.”

Brown remains in custody and is expected to appear in court at 10:00 am today.
