The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has raised serious allegations against the Nigerian government, claiming it introduced a fake Department of State Services (DSS) witness in the ongoing trial of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

According to IPOB, the individual identified as Prosecution Witness BBB (PW-BBB) is not a DSS officer as claimed, but allegedly linked to a private law firm with no legitimate ties to DSS operations. The group labeled the move a “trial by ambush,” accusing the prosecution of misconduct.

In a statement issued in Abuja by IPOB’s spokesperson, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group noted that the name and testimony of PW-BBB were never disclosed in the initial list of prosecution witnesses submitted to the defense. They argue this undermines due process and compromises the integrity of the trial.

“The individual’s courtroom responses such as ‘I don’t know,’ and ‘No one informed me’ clearly show he lacks credibility,” the statement reads. “He’s a government-planted mercenary receiving strategic coaching to mislead the court.”

IPOB further urged trial judge Justice James Omotosho to take judicial notice of the incident and protect the sanctity of the courtroom.

The group insists that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s detention in solitary confinement is well documented and verifiable through DSS internal records and visits by UK Consular staff.

IPOB also called on media outlets to remain objective and resist echoing what it called state propaganda.

“The attempt to validate falsehood through a hired actor is not only deceptive but a deep insult to the Nigerian judiciary,” IPOB stated. “We demand justice, and above all, the unconditional release of our leader.”
