The suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to the state capital, Port-Harcourt, fter spending nearly two weeks on vacation abroad. Fubara arrived at the international wing of Port-Harcourt International Airport in Omagwa at approximately 7pm on Friday.
This was seen in a viral video showing the governor’s arrival and being received by some aides at the Airport. He was led to a waiting SUV, which sped away at once.Reports had also suggested that President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sim Fubara
had a secret meeting in London over the recent State of Emergency imposed on Rivers State in April.A news report carried by The Africa Report had indicated that both Tinubu and Fubara had met in London during the recent visit to work out modalities for returning Rivers State to the path of peace. But a presidential aide who was privy to the meeting, while confirming that the meeting actually took place, added that It was aimed at restoring peace to the troubled oil-bearing community.According to the Presidential aide, “The meeting was part of the efforts by the President to find a lasting solution to the ongoing political crisis in that region.” Recall that In March, President Bola Tinubu suspended Governor Fubara, his deputy Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly following his declaration of a state of emergency in the state. The President explained the decision by highlighting attacks on oil pipelines conducted by militant groups amid the escalating conflict involving the Governor and 27 lawmakers. He also mentioned the role of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
