A 60-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran, tragically drowned after being swept away by heavy floodwaters during a torrential downpour along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, in the Alakuko area of Lagos State.
According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 4:00 PM on May 20, 2025, when Adeniran lost control of his motorcycle due to the intensity of the rain and was dragged into the flood.
Eyewitnesses said the victim was swept away by the strong currents along with his motorcycle.
While the motorcycle was recovered later that evening around 6:00 PM, the search for Adeniran’s body extended into the following day.
His remains were eventually discovered at around 9:00 AM on May 21 at Obasanjo River in Ota, Ogun State, several kilometers from where the incident initially occurred. This was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin.
